The Multimodal Treatment Study of Children With Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (the MTA study) is a cooperative treatment study performed by 6 independent research teams in collaboration with the Division of Services and Intervention Research, National Institute of Mental Health, and the Office of Special Education Programs, US Department of Education, Washington, DC. Treatment Study of Children with ADHD (the so-called MTA Study), no studies had compared these two treatments in any study longer than 4 months. As a consequence, critical questions such as what treatment works best, and for whom, and for how long?
