Georg simmel theory

The Stranger is an essay in sociology by Georg Simmel, originally written as an excursus to a chapter dealing with sociology of space, in his book Soziologie. In this essay, Simmel introduced the notion of "the stranger" as a unique sociological category. Sociologist Georg Simmel published his magnum opus, The Philosophy of Money, in 1900 in Germany. Drawing on Kant, Marx, and Weber among many, many others, the book has Simmel’s singular style that separates him from pretty much every other sociologist that has ever lived.

Simmel believed that as society modernized and became more specialize, objective culture would dominate over subjective culture. Objective culture is “ideas and products of human creativity” meaning it involves all the tangible aspects of culture including artifacts, food, Georg Simmel is a very eclectic and wide-ranging social theorist, which can make it difficult to get a grasp on this dynamic thinker. The Sociology of Georg Simmel is a great book to check out from your library if you want to get an overview of Simmel’s body of thought: Conflict was recognized as normal social phenomenon.
